چکیده

By a new Monte Carlo algorithm we evaluate the sidedness probability pn of a planar Poisson-Voronoi cell in the range 3 ≤ n ≤ 1600. The algorithm is developed on the basis of earlier theoretical work; it exploits, in particular, the known asymptotic behavior of pn as n → ∞. Our pn values all have between four and six significant digits. Accurate n dependent averages, second moments, and variances are obtained for the cell area and the cell perimeter. The numerical large n behavior of these quantities is analyzed in terms of asymptotic power series in n−1. Snapshots are shown of typical occurrences of extremely rare events implicating cells of up to n = 1600 sides embedded in an ordinary Poisson-Voronoi diagram. We reveal and discuss the characteristic features of such many-sided cells and their immediate environment. Their relevance for observable properties is stressed.

Heuristic theory for many-faced d-dimensional Poisson-Voronoi cells

We consider the d-dimensional Poisson-Voronoi tessellation and investigate the applicability of heuristic methods developed recently for two dimensions. Let pn(d) be the probability that a cell have n neighbors (be ‘n-faced’) and mn(d) the average facedness of a cell adjacent to an n-faced cell. We obtain the leading order terms of the asymptotic large-n expansions for pn(d) and mn(3). It appea...

Planar and SPECT Monte Carlo acceleration using a variance reduction technique in I131 imaging

Background: Various variance reduction techniques such as forced detection (FD) have been implemented in Monte Carlo (MC) simulation of nuclear medicine in an effort to decrease the simulation time while keeping accuracy. However most of these techniques still result in very long MC simulation times for being implemented into routine use. Materials and Methods: Convolution-based force...

Statistical Properties of Elastic Moduli of Polycrystalline Materials Using a Johnson-mehl Model

Polycrystalline material microstructure is simulated by Johnson-Mehl model. Finite element analysis is implemented on unit volumes of Johnson-Mehl grain structures, which are aggregates of anisotropic grains orientated by a uniform-random distribution. Monte Carlo techniques are utilized in obtaining the statistical properties of elastic moduli of the ensemble from finite element solutions. The...

Spatial count models on the number of unhealthy days in Tehran

Spatial count data is usually found in most sciences such as environmental science, meteorology, geology and medicine. Spatial generalized linear models based on poisson (poisson-lognormal spatial model) and binomial (binomial-logitnormal spatial model) distributions are often used to analyze discrete count data in which spatial correlation is observed. The likelihood function of these models i...
